Nothing above works until the layer below it does.

1. Infrastructure

   Direction

   Where coordination becomes a utility.

   The long-term company: the layer other businesses build on because it is the most reliable account of what is actually happening in retail. This is a direction, not a roadmap item.

   Depends on — All three layers below it working.

2. Intelligence

   Early

   Where the signal becomes a decision.

   What connected activity makes knowable: what is really moving, what is about to run out, what a shelf is telling everyone upstream. Some of this exists inside a single store today. Across stores, it does not yet.

   Depends on — Enough connected activity to be worth reading.

3. Network

   Being built

   Where the businesses connect.

   The retailer's existing relationships — distributors, suppliers, brands, customers — made addressable. Partly real today: a store can reach its own customers. The rest is being built.

   Depends on — Stores actually running on the operating layer.

4. Store

   Live today

   Where the transaction happens.

   The operating layer an independent retailer uses every day: billing, inventory, purchasing, customers, reporting. This is the only layer that is a finished product, and it is the layer everything else is built on.

   Depends on — Nothing. This is the foundation.
